Gelzer, Anna

Anna Gelzer earned her veterinary degree at the University of Bern, Switzerland in 1992, followed by a doctorate (Dr. med.vet.) at the University of Bern in 1994. She completed a small animal internship at the University of Georgia, GA, USA and a residency in cardiology at Cornell University, NY, USA. She received board certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, ACVIM in cardiology (1998) and also the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, ECVIM - Companion Animal (Cardiology, 1999). In 2010 she was habilitated at the University of Bern. She was on faculty at Cornell University and the University of Liverpool, UK before joining PennVet in the Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine in 2015, where she is Professor of Cardiology.  In these positions she taught veterinary students and trained numerous cardiology residents, published over 50 manuscripts and a book. Her passion is cardiac electrophysiology and her research efforts are focused on improving arrhythmia diagnosis and management in animals, both medically and by pursuing novel interventional treatment options using catheter ablation.
